I have heard it said that springtime at Shuangxi is yet lovely. I intend to sail there in a dainty boat.

Normally I love Macaroni Grill, though it is a bit pricey on my budget for every day dining. Last night was a special occasion though, and we decided to brave the inevitable crowds and visit the joint. The night started off with a bang as it was hotter and more humid inside than it was outside, which in Tallahassee is saying a lot. Things only got better as once we were seated we were informed that someone had broken a number of cases of glasses last week and there were not enough to make sure that each patron received one. Now, instead of going out and buying some glasses (or even paper cups) to get by, the restaurant management seemingly decided that it would be best for their bottom line if they just allowed customers to go thirsty. Despite that lack of glasses and the apparent shortage of bread, we decided to stick it out. Our waiter was good and though it took almost twenty minutes to get our first drinks, it was clear he was doing his best.

If that was the extent of the problems, I wouldn’t be complaining. I understand there are problems and you have to work through them. No, the real problems started a bit after dinner when the food poisoning kicked in. Oh yes. I got food poisoning at Macaroni Grill. One of my fellow dining victims was affected as well, though not as seriously as myself. The chicken cannelloni was my downfall. Let me tell you, it was much better going down. So, in the end, I have decided to enter Macaroni Grill into the Book of Grudges and I doubt I will go there again anytime in the next fifty years or so. Burn, devil cooks!

Yes, is that’s time of year again. Time to pack up and head up to Atlanta to view all the freaks and weirdos downtown. (And the convention goers.) Last year was a little stressful with trying to be everywhere and visit everyone, but this time I’m avoiding as many commitments as possible. Just a couple of things to do and then I’ll be free to browse, take pictures, and annoy celebrities.

Ah, the celebrities. What would any convention be without those heroes of paper, stage, and screen, for the masses to descend upon and screech stupid questions at. Due to budget shortfalls in 2006, I avoided the celebrity sections as not to be tempted by the likes of Mickey Rooney and Grant Imahara. Yes, I frequent the famous ladies as well. But considering the majority of the people I see clustered around their tables are drooling, unbathed subhumans, I always feel a bit awkward when just trying to be normal and express a bit of appreciation about their work. Ah, the dangers of Con life. The big news, at least for me, is quite possibly the greatest D*C guest EVER.

I am, of course, speaking of the great Lou Gossett, Jr.

That’s right, Lou Gossett, Jr. (Or ‘The Lou‘ as he’s known around here.). He’s an amazing actor who has been in any number of incredible projects like Roots, An Officer and a Gentleman, Enemy Mine, Jaws 3, and what is one of my favorite all-time films, Iron Eagle. Yes, it’s no Citizen Kane, but it is still one hell of a good film. Heck, I love to watch Iron Eagle II! I am a huge fan of Lou Gossett Jr.’s, he is a tremendous actor and I am literally giddy with excitement that he’ll be at D*C this year. It’s going to take a tremendous amount of effort not to be one of the annoying bastards from the paragraph above.

For the first time, I will have a shiny new laptop at Dragon*Con so hopefully I’ll be able to publish pictures of convention attendees the same day I take them. I won’t be visiting any of the panels because I hate most of the pretentious, know-it-all, butt monkeys who run them, so don’t expect much in the way of Awesome Con Reports®. If there’s anything interesting, however, I’ll chronicle it if I remember.

Yeah, I look to be behind the times here don’t I? The truth is I’m pretty sick of some of the people and attitudes at most of the major sites with blogs (this means you MySpace, Facebook, and Live Journal), so I’m putting my five year dormant web space to use. Will there be anything of substance here? Beats the hell out of me.
